Concert Director
Since the foundation-year in 1927, the CA has always nominated a renowned conductor as its Concert Director to take the choir under his wing.

The longest occupation of this position was by Karl Böhm (photo) from 1954 to 1981, where he led innumerable recordings as well as opera- and concertprojects of the Concert Association of the Vienna State Opera Chorus.

Fashion Show
Choir singers, who have to sing more than hundred operas in their careers and in the most variable pruductions, sometimes have to wear the oddest costumes and for an outsider it is almost impossible to say which costume is for which opera.

This collage (photo) shows the unrestricted imagination of the costume artists to clothe the choir as originally as possible, as well as the fun that the choir have to celebrate a "carnival" the whole year through.

Choir- Soloists
Small solo-roles, to which the extensive repertoire often offers enough occation, are regularly offered to the choir members. Among these are messengers, servants, chambermaids, soldiers and coachmen (with the proverbial solo sentence: "the horses are saddled"!),

but also bigger parts, like the part of Flora in LA TRAVIATA, the Officer in IL BARBER DI SEVILLA, Un Giudice in UN BALLO IN MASCHERA (can incidentally also be heard on the Karajan recording), or the 3 Adelige Waisen (photo) in ROSENKAVALIER (see also the DVD with Carlos Kleiber). Unfortunately there isn't enough space to list all the innumerable other solo-roles.

mp3- Operas
How long will it be until CD's are a thing of the past? Now already Internet offers whole operas or symphonies as mp3- files (compressed audio- data that requires a tenth of the data- quantity of a CD) for example the following historic recording:

EIN SOMMERNACHTSTRAUM by F. Mendelssohn- Bartholdy. Performers: The Concert Association of the Vienna State Opera Chorus and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra under Clemens Krauss.
